We are delighted to welcome University of Glasgow's Professor Tony Pollard, Professor of Conflict Archaeology and History. Professor Pollard will be speaking on 'Aftermath, 1815 and Beyond: Battlefield Clearance and Archaeology at Waterloo.'
About the speaker
Professor Tony Pollard has directed battlefield and conflict related archaeological projects in the UK, Europe, Africa and South America. His interests range from 18th century warfare, particularly in relation to the Jacobite wars in Scotland, to the cultural heritage of the Falklands War (he is co-director of the Falklands War Mapping Project). On behalf of the Australian Army, he led the survey and evaluation of the First World War mass graves of Australian troops at Fromelles, in France.
Tony has co-founded The Journal of Conflict Archaeology, has written extensively for academic and popular audiences, and appeared in various television documentaries. Tony is currently a field director and lead academic for Waterloo Uncovered, a project engaging military veterans in the archaeological investigation of the 1815 battlefield.
In addition, we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to visit an exhibition celebrating forty years of collecting archives "The Duke presents his compliments”.
The exhibition in the Special Collections Gallery, Level 4, Hartley Library:

16 October – 15 December 2023 and 8 January – 16 February 2024.
On Tuesday 17 October, the exhibition will be open until 17:30 for all lecture guests to attend on that day or you are welcome to visit at a later date. No booking required.
