Event details
In this START session, you'll learn the principles of using software for processing and analysing large amounts of text semi-automatically.
Manually analysing text can be very time-intensive. This is especially true when we have a lot of text data to work with. With the help of both specialist and generalist software, including purpose-built concordancers and even Microsoft Excel, we can automate many aspects of analysing large amounts of text data. In this START session, you'll learn how to use freely available software to quantify patterns and generate useful statistical insights from large-scale text data.
This session will be hosted in person. Come to the Digital Humanities Hub (Building 65, Room 2155) and bring a laptop with you. You can find information on borrowing a laptop from the University here. All attendees should download AntConc before the session. A sample dataset will be shared on the day for us to use in the practical elements of the session.
