A critic of nineteenth-century poetry, culture, women's writing and literary theory, Prof. Armstrong's most recent monograph, Victorian Glassworlds: Glass Culture and the Imagination 1830-1880 was published in 2008. In this special lecture for the new Southampton Centre for Nineteenth-Century Research, Professor Armstrong will discuss her most recent research on the democratic imagination and the nineteenth-century novel.

The Centre's first guest lecture is primarily aimed at academic staff and postgraduates, but it will also be of interest to undergraduate students studying nineteenth-century culture and literature.
