Part of the Music Research Seminar Series

This paper explores the use of sacred music for political events in Barcelona during the convulse period around the War of the Spanish Succession (1700-15). It will show how local and regional authorities used music to show support for the two contenders (Philip V of Bourbon and Charles "III" of Habsburg, future emperor Charles VI), while simultaneously defining their identities in contrast with each other.
