Transmigrancy Conference - Transmigrancy, Place and Memory Seminar

As part of its Jubilee celebrations and also linked to the one hundredth anniversary of the First World War commemorations, the Parkes Institute is hosting a workshop to focus on a neglected but important aspect of twentieth century European history - that of transmigrant camps, especially those linked directly or indirectly to war.

Whilst the focus will largely be on Britain, we will welcome contributions which deal with the experience on the continent. The presentations will focus on place, and how particular sites were used for a variety of transmigrant groups. They will examine how such experiences have been remembered and forgotten and what this reveals about local, national and international identities.
