Speaker biography

Rachel Garfield is an artist.  She has exhibited widely, recently in a solo show at Beaconsfield London (2012) and a screening work at the ICA as part of the London Short Film Festival (2012).  Garfield writes about video art and about the modern and contemporary representation of Jews in art and popular media.  Recent text include chapter monograph "Vivien Dick: A Particular Incoherence" in Between Truth and Fiction, The Film of Vivienne Dick, Treasa O'Brian ed., Crawford Art Centre/Lux publications; chapter monograph, 'Questioning Perceptions of Jewish Indentity in the work of Ary Stillman', Ary Stillman: For Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism, James Wechsler, ed.,Merrell, NY, 2008 and the forthcoming, "Playing with history: Negotiating subjectivity in contemporary lens based art" Routledge Handbook to Modern Jewish Cultures, Nadia Valman, Laurence Roth eds. (Routledge 2014).
