Part of the CMRC Seminar Series 2015/2016

This talk will discuss my new book, England's Republic: The Lost Decade, 1649-1660. The book is contracted with Faber and Faber and is what the publishing trade call 'narrative non-fiction'. As well as presenting my thoughts and research on this extraordinary, but rather overlooked, period of English history, I will draw on my own experiences as a publisher to talk about the publication process of such books, and how trade publishing differs from academic publishing. I will also discuss the difficulties I am facing as I write this book, such as how to tell a story and what interdisciplinarity means to me.
