Devon Drury's Photo

Hi, I'm Devon Drury and I studied BA Philosophy within Humanities at the University of Southampton.

There’s such a broad range of modules available to you. Southampton is such a brilliant place to live and study and the lecturers are amazing.

What made you choose the University of Southampton?

I think it was the atmosphere when I came down for the Open Day and my interview. The lecturers were so friendly and the university itself was amazing. The greenery is just beautiful. I saw the campus and I thought, ‘this is the place for me’.

What made you choose Philosophy?

I did it at A-Level. I did Philosophy of Religion and I absolutely loved it. As I was researching universities, I saw the broad range of modules offered by Southampton. You can study so many different things and there is a lot of flexibility.

Do you have a favourite module?

I did Philosophy of Maths, which I loved. I also really enjoyed Ethics of Belief which I did this year with Kurt.

Did you get involved in any clubs or societies?

Yes, I got involved in a few sports societies. I did volleyball and I did tennis for a bit too, which I really enjoyed.

How did you feel about living in Southampton?

I lived in a lot of different places around Southampton, from the city centre in my first year, then I lived in Portswood. The city is really accessible and it’s really easy to travel between the two campuses.

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

I’d say definitely go for it! There’s such a broad range of modules available to you. Southampton is such a brilliant place to go and the lecturers are amazing.

What are your plans for the future?

I’ve decided that I want to do a Masters. Having loved third year and my dissertation, it has shown me that I would like to carry on! Afterwards, I am considering going into Law or Teaching.
