Hi, I'm Hannah Holden and I studied BA Film within Humanities at the University of Southampton.

There is a very welcoming community spirit here. Southampton has a vibrant community and is a very student friendly place.

What made you choose Southampton?

I wasn’t really sure where to go at first. I looked around a few different unis. I was advised by a tutor at college about Southampton’s status as a Russell Group university, so I came and had a look round. When I got here, it just felt right for me! It fitted well with me.

What did you like most about living and studying in Southampton?

I liked the fact that it has a vibrant community and Southampton itself is a student friendly place. I also really enjoyed taking part in societies. I have a lot of friends now, who are friends for life, who I met in societies. There is such a wide range of people here.

What societies were you involved in?

I was involved with Showstoppers in my first year and did a couple of shows with them. In my second year, I was more involved with dance societies. I was in the Contemporary Society and the Street Dance society. I was part of the Contemporary Dance Squad and we performed all around the country in dance shows.

Do you have any particular highlights from your time at Southampton?

I would say a lot of the things I did with dance. I particularly enjoyed the competitions. It makes you realise that it’s part of something bigger. So many people have come together and put on all of these great performances. University is so much more than school; it’s a completely different world!

Do you have any advice for someone thinking about Southampton?

Come and have a look around and see if it fits for you. There is a very welcoming community spirit here. Southampton worked for me! It’s also a reputable university, so that is definitely positive when you are thinking about the future after your degree.

What are your plans for the future?

I’ve applied to study and MA here at Southampton in Film and Cultural Management. After that I’m hoping to go into a distribution or marketing job in the industry.
