Charity funds new lab equipment

Published: 28 July 2016

We're very excited to have been able to use part of our funds from Kids with Guts to purchase brand new specialised laboratory equipment.

It is with great pleasure that we have received the rock n roller, pipettes and scales for our laboratory.

This equipment is very much appreciated by the lab staff, and will make a huge difference in running an efficient laboratory to aid the processing of patient samples.

Pipettes and scales

Kids with guts have kindly donated two pipettes and a balance navigator (scales). Both items are of great value to the laboratory and will assist with the processing of paediatric IBD samples.

This will make a huge difference with the processing of blood samples, and is a much needed upgrade, replacing equipment which is now rather old and tired.

The rock n roller is an important part of the DNA extraction process as the bloods require mixing for a minimum of 2 hours for the DNA extraction process to be successful. It is, as the title suggests, something that rocks from side to side and the rollers roll the tubes at the same time.

It is also good for the cold room, where the blood samples have to be kept at fridge temperature, because it is built to withstand working in a cold environment.
