Speaker: Nick Keane Nick Keane works in the College of Policing as the Digital Engagement Business Manager. Since 2008, he has worked with police services to support and develop their use of social media sites. His principal role is developing the knowledge management and organisational learning required in police forces to adapt to, embrace and engage with social media – this requires a range of responses including policy development, organising national conferences and running bespoke workshops in forces – for leaders and practitioners. Nick provides liaison support for police forces with Social Media providers including Twitter, Facebook and Google +.
UK Policing has been using social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter as part of their engagement and communications with the public. Not only do police forces now have over 1 million followers on Twitter and 400,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook but social media platforms are playing an important role during crises situation, for example, 2011 Riots, community relations and investigation. This seminar will look at the current situation and consider the risks and opportunities that the police service are encountering and managing.
