About Us

The IfLS acts as a conduit for funding opportunities and studentships available from sponsors focused on interdisciplinary research projects.  The strength of the IfLS lies in the interdisciplinary collaborative network which is made up of over 300 Members and represents all eight of the University's faculties.

The IfLS encourages and supports interdisciplinary research projects and believes that sponsoring PhD students will bring new areas of expertise.  There is a rolling programme of studentships available to IfLS Members each academic year.  In addtion, other sources of funding, such as the EPSRC Bridging the Gap and undergraduate vacation bursaries, provide additional mechanisms for interdisciplinary research projects.

The IfLS also provides networking opportunities and access to resources and facilities.  A varied programme of conferences, seminars, workshops and poster sessions provide exciting environments for researchers to explore novel approaches to existing research and cross pollinate ideas.
