Hi, I'm Katarzyna Kuliga and I studied EPSRC CASE PhD: Development and evaluation of Moor VMS-LDF and VMS-OXY devices to measure tissue blood flow and tissue oxygenation in clinical setting within Institute for Life Sciences at the University of Southampton.

I am passionate about medical imaging and optical techniques used in medicine.

I have graduated in biomedical engineering in 2012 and I enjoy working on cutting-edge medical technologies. I joined University of Southampton as a PhD student in 2012. My research focuses on non-invasive optical techniques for measuring blood flow and oxygenation in human skin. I use laser Doppler flowmetry and white light spectroscopy to investigate the physiology of microcirculation. I analyse acquired signals using modern signal processing techniques to reveal the information about oscillatory processes attributed to flowmotion.

My PhD is funded via the EPSRC CASE studentship, which involves a collaboration between the University and an industrial partner. This interdisciplinary research will contribute to better understanding of the optical measurements of blood flow and oxygenation from human skin, and translating these findings into clinical settings.

I work with Professor Geraldine Clough (Institute of Developmental Sciences, Faculty of Medicine), Dr Andrew Chipperfield (Bioengineering Sciences) and Dr Rodney Gush (Moor Instruments, UK).
