This year 15 Pint of Science events were organised at five pubs across Southampton, with leading scientists giving talks to the general public on topic areas ranging from gravitational waves to nanotechnology.

The aim of the Pint of Science festival is to engage people in the latest science research in an accessible format and setting.

IfLS PhD student Catarina Moura, says "We want to make science accessible and fun! It is important to take it out of the lab so everyone knows how amazing science is.

Science has a reputation for being complicated, and Pint of Science aims to change that concept by bringing scientists to talk in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere - the local pub!  We were overwhelmed to see so many people in Southampton interested - the 15 events were completely sold-out!"

The Southampton Pint of Science events were organised by volunteers, mainly postgraduate researchers, from the University of Southampton, with some sponsorship from the Institute for Life Sciences.  Speakers included Prof Koushik Maharatna and Dr Jonathan West (organised by the Tech Me out team), Dr Tracey Newman and Dr Jonathan Dawson (organised by the Our Body team), Prof Vincent O'Connor and Dr Amritpal Mudher (organised by the Beautiful Body team), Dr Orly Razgour and Prof Mark Moore (organised by the Planet Earth team).
