Communities Bridging Disciplines

The Institute for Life Sciences Biofilms and Microbial Communities Theme Conference, ‘Communities Bridging Disciplines' on 12th September, marks the first official event of the Institute for Life Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Abstract: Research into complex microbial communities is now a feature of many scientific disciplines, such as microbiology, biotechnology, engineering and ocean science, impacting across diverse fields of application including medicine, environment and industry. The objective of this conference is to capitalize on the multidisciplinary nature of this exciting research topic by fostering discussion and exchange of ideas and methods between the various research areas. This meeting will be the third gathering of microbial community researchers across the University; the previous two very successful meetings have led to much new collaboration and to successful funding outcomes. It is anticipated that this year's event will be just as successful. The programme includes speakers from within the Southampton research community as well as other leading UK researchers working in this field. This year, we also have the addition of a poster session, alongside a cheese and wine reception at the Chilworth Manor, which will provide an excellent opportunity to network.

Programme Participants: Professor George Attard (University of Southampton) Professor Catherine Biggs (University of Sheffield), Dr Saul Faust (University of Southampton), Professor Alain Filloux (Imperial College London), Dr Luanne Hall-Stoodley (University of Southampton), Professor Bill Keevil (University of Southampton), Dr Lex Kraaijeveld (University of Southampton), Professor Philip Marsh (Health Protection Agency, Porton Down), Professor Peter J.S Smith (University of Southampton), Dr Paul Stoodley (University of Southampton), Dr Richard Watson (University of Southampton),Dr Jeremy Webb (University of Southampton),
