The Institute for Life Sciences lecture marks the official launch of the Institute at the University of Southampton. Places are limited and registration is essential.

 The setting for the launch includes the annual Southampton Neuroscience Group conference. Attendees will also have the opportunity to stay for the SoNG Conference plenary lecture, on compulsive behaviour and mental disorders such as addiction, given by Professor Trevor Robbins, University of Cambridge.

SoNG attendees and colleagues who have participated in work related to the Institute for Life Sciences are invited to a drinks reception afterwards: 5-7pm, Observatory, Life Sciences Building.

Professor Lord Robert Winston,Imperial College London, Lord Winston, Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College, runs a research programme in the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology on improvements in transgenic technology in animal models, with a long-term aim of improving human transplantation. He has around 300 scientific publications in peer-review journals on reproduction and embryology. He was voted "Peer of the Year" by his fellow Parliamentarians in June 2008 for his expertise and work on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.
