"Fun With Microfluidics"

Hywel's talk will provide an insight into the potential use of bioengineering systems for the investigation of key questions in biomedical and biological sciences.

Microfluidic devices and systems process small volumes of liquid using micro-fabricated chips. These microfluidic chips integrate many processing steps, including sample pre-treatment and multiplex assays, into a single system; the "Lab on a Chip". Devices are being developed for a wide range of applications, ranging from Point of Care diagnosis to environmental analysis. This talk will describe some recent developments in the use of microfluidics for cellular and biochemical analysis, and show how modern electronic manufacturing methods can produce sophisticated low cost diagnostic systems.

Refreshments are available after the seminar
