Event details

The Institute for Life Science and the Web Science Institute at Southampton working with the Data Science Institute at Imperial have pleasure in inviting you to the Cross-Institute Data Hackathon, which aims to develop interdisciplinary data analysis skills between leading universities.

In last year's event we worked with teams of researchers to come together in a study of data relating to disaster management scenarios, including forecasting and immediate crisis management and post-disaster management.

In 2016 we will be looking to focus on important longitudinal bioinformatics research data dealing with asthma across key populations and participants will attempt to cross-fertilise this data through the use of social media web data, Big/Broad data sources, data visualization and state of the art analytic techniques in order to work towards new insights into public health data.

The event will feature access to both Southampton's Web Observatory (WO) and Imperial's KPMG Data Observatory (DO). Numbers are strictly limited so please sign up early.

Some programming/data literacy skills are a pre-requisite for taking part though we see Data Hackathons as much as a rich source of insight and "different thinking" bringing eclectic methodological approaches to key research problems as it is a technical challenge.

Please join us on 15th-17th March.

Professor Peter Smith, Director of the IfLS

Professor Dame Wendy Hall, Director of the WSI

Professor Yi-Ke Guo, Director of Imperial's Data Science Institute
