This year the meeting theme is 'Mucosal Immunology'.

It is with great pleasure that we can now announce the call for abstracts for the upcoming Wessex Immunology Group Annual Spring Meeting on Tuesday 26th June 2018 entitled themed 'Mucosal Immunology'.

Postgraduate research students, postdoctoral researchers, clinical academic trainees and others are invited to submit an abstract using the template and following the guidelines, see useful downloads below. The deadline for abstract submission is midday Friday 4th May 2018 and abstracts should be e-mailed to .

By “Mucosal Immunology” we mean any research that encompasses mucosal immunology, ranging from barrier immunology to the influence of microbiome on the immunological response to various infectious and inflammatory diseases. 

Selected abstracts will be shortlisted for oral or poster presentations by the Wessex Immunology Group Committee. Individuals will be notified of the nature of their presentation when the selection process has been completed on Friday 25th May 2018.


The finalised programme for the day will follow shortly and confirmed speakers are:

Prof Jeremy Webb (University of Southampton): “Biofilms, Chronic infection, and Mucosal Immunology”.

Prof Andrew MacDonald (University of Manchester): “Environmental control of pulmonary macrophage responsiveness during type 2 inflammation”

Dr. Markus Britschgi (Roche): “Severity of inflammation modulates the extent of alpha-synuclein accumulation in the enteric nervous system”.

Prof Sheena Cruickshank (University of Manchester): “Epithelial Microbial Interactions: Inflammation and Injury”.

Dr Emily Thornton (University of Oxford): "The interaction between the intestinal microbiota and the host immune system".

These annual meetings aim to continue to foster links between our wide immunology research base across the region and to build external links with other immunologists outside of our area.
