Melissa Bateson, University of Newcastle, Professor of Ethology. I am an ethologist, meaning that I take a biological approach to the study of behaviour, asking both proximate and ultimate questions about why animals behave as they do. I have broad research interests are in decision making, emotions and animal welfare.
