Honoured for developing law in Africa

Professor David Mellor OBE, chair of the United Kingdom Telecommunications Academy (UKTA) and member of ILAWS has been honoured by a leading African university.

He received an LLD Honoris Causa from the Open University of Tanzania before an audience of 10,000 people and was congratulated by the Prime Minister of Tanzania Peter Kayanza Pinda, the Minister of Education and Vocational Training and the Open University Chancellor Dr John Samuel Malecela who made the award.

After the ceremony, the Prime Minister told David that he was grateful for the UKTA's valuable contribution to the development of lawyers in Africa.

David is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at ILAWS and a tutor on the distance learning LLM in IT and Telecoms programme.

The Open University of Tanzania is the first university in East Africa to offer educational programmes through open and distance learning. It is based in Dar es Salaam and operates through a network of 22 regional centres.
