Student Response Systems SIG

ILIaD is no longer active.

During 2016, a review of ILIaD concluded that the continuing provision of effective and sustainable support for staff development and technology-enhanced education would be best addressed by embedding the functions previously based in ILIaD within iSolutions, the Library, the Faculty of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences, and Human Resources.   

As an interim measure, if you have a question or require support in any of these areas, please contact either HR; your Business Relationship Manager (iSolutions); Academic Engagement Librarian (Library) or the newly formed Centre for Higher Education Practice and they will be able to redirect you as appropriate.

This interest group aims to support academics who are interested in developing their use of student response systems (SRS) to facilitate learning. Until recently, Turning Point clickers have been the principle system at Southampton, but there are now many alternatives which use students' phones, tablets or laptops instead. The group will provide an opportunity to learn about these alternatives and explore how SRS can be used for a wide range of engaging in-class activities. This is especially relevant for large cohorts, perhaps in combination with blended learning methods. 

Aims

1. To promote the use of student response systems to tutors to share experience and expertise and support student learning.

2. To develop tutors’ ability to use student response systems effectively.

3. To support a multi-disciplinary network of users who can act as student response systems champions.

4. To build a business case for an institutional online SRS

Membership  

You are welcome to join the group whatever your level of expertise with SRS. We hope that you will share your experience and ideas, to help build a network of practitioners. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact the SIG facilitator, Adam Warren at A.J.Warren@soton.ac.uk

Following a successful Education Enhancement Fund bid, members of the SIG will be eligible to apply for a finite number of one year licences, enabling evaluation at a level beyond free facilities available to all.

Format

Meetings will be held regularly bringing an opportunity to share good practice, explore the capabilities of various systems, discuss their educational potential and hear speakers from within the University and other organisations. This will be a member driven group and we would invite as many of you as possible to contribute ideas, shape the agenda and share good practice.
