The Insurance Law Research Group is proud to welcome Professor James Davey to Southampton.

The Insurance Law Research Group is delighted to be able to welcome Professor James Davey, until recently a Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University, to a Chair at Southampton.

James' research and teaching interests lie in contract and commercial law generally, and he will be teaching contract law to first-year undergraduates as well as insurance law to LLBs who choose the optional module in insurance law in their third year, to students for the LLM Insurance Law degree and to students on the Insurance Law module. He will also be supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in insurance law as well as doctoral research.

James has covered a wide range of insurance topics in his written work and complements existing research interests delightfully. He notably harbours a strong interest in the Law and Economics of insurance, a strong field of study in the US but not generally intensively considered in the UK where insurance law research tends to be centred on contract law. His current research focuses on the shape of insurance regulation in the UK and US, in light of the lessons from behavioural economics, and on challenges to the draconian forfeiture rule for fraudulent claims.
