Event details
The first ever Insurance Law Moot took place on 7-8 February 2015. A number of aspiring insurance lawyers competed in presenting arguments over a problem of marine cargo insurance.
We are proud to announce the winners of the first Insurance Law Moot.
The winners in a closely fought final were Alistair Wooder and Bibek Mukherjee.
Runners up: Roberto Kehinde and Colm Kelly
Best Speaker in the Final: Colm Kelly
Best Speaker in the General Rounds: Bibek Mukherjee
Spirit of the Moot: Fiona Petersen and Julija Stukalina
The final was judged by Mr Justice Bernard Eder together with Jane Andrewartha and Peter McDonald Eggers QC. The judges in the general rounds who gave generously of their time were Jane Andrewartha, Julian Burling, Edward Cole, Alison Green, Michael Mendelowitz and Mark Templeman QC.
A number of sponsors provided prizes. Book vouchers to the winning team and the two winning speakers were provided by Informa Law from Routledge, the commercial law publisher. Winners, finalists and spirits of the moot were awarded one year's personal student membership of the British Insurance Law Association. The best speaker in the final was awarded two days' work experience in 7KBW.
We are immensely grateful to Clyde & Co and 7KBW also for the use of their splendid premises and to the British Insurance Law Association for the support shown on many levels.
It is hoped that this moot, to our knowledge the first insurance law moot in the world, will become an annual fixture in the insurance law and mooting calendar. It is open to undergraduate as well as postgraduate law students who have not yet been admitted to practice in any jurisdiction. The main objectives of the competition are to encourage development of advocacy skills among prospective practitioners as well as to stimulate interest in the fascinating area of insurance law.
