Chinese insurance

Insurance law worldwide has to address the same contractual situations and the same types of clauses, and has to manage the same types of insured risks. We are fortunate to have excellent links with Chinese insurance law academics and good mutual exchanges allowing us to broaden our horizon and look at real insurance law issues in principle.

On 23-24 April 2013, the Insurance Law Research Group organised a conference on Chinese and English Insurance Law. The Conference took place at Lloyd's of London and in Southampton and gathered five very eminent professors in insurance law from Chinese universities, as well as many academics from the UK.

The conference was generously supported by the Southampton Confucius Institute, the British Insurance Law Association and the LMA Academy.

A book, Insurance Law in China, including many of the papers from the event has now been published. It is the first comprehensive study of Chinese insurance law available to an English speaking audience. The book was edited by Johanna Hjalmarsson and Dingjing Huang and contains sixteen authored chapters and translations of the Chinese Insurance Act and the marine insurance chapter of the Chinese Maritime Code. For further details, see the publisher's web site.
