Guest Speaker Confirmed for 8th Singapore Short course farewell dinner

Dennis Tan, Maritime LLM graduate of the University of Southampton, the be guest speaker for the farewell dinner of the latest Singapore Short Course on 19th May.

 

We are happy to announce that Dennis Tan will deliver the guest speech at the upoming farewell dinner of the 8th Edition of the Singapore Short Course, due to finish Friday 20th May. 

Dennis studied law at the University of Nottingham. After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1994, he went to bar school in London. After becoming a Barrister-at-Law at the Middle Temple, London, he returned to Singapore and became an Advocate and Solicitor, Supreme Court of Singapore in 1997. He re-qualified as a Solicitor, Supreme Court of England & Wales, in 1999 while working in an English law firm, Stephenson Harwood. After working as a shipping lawyer for a few years, he obtained a Masters in Maritime Law at the University of Southampton in 2005. Dennis was previously a partner in shipping law firm, Ang & Partners, before starting the shipping law firm, DennisMathiew in 2005 with another partner and is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom.

 

Dennis started as a volunteer with the Singapore Workers’ Party during the 2011 General Election, becoming a member in early 2012. In September 2013, he was co-opted as a member of the party’s Executive Council. In July 2014, he was elected to the party’s Executive Council and became the party’s ViceChair, Media Team. In the 2015 General Election, he was the party’s candidate for the Single Member Constituency (SMC) of Fengshan. He obtained 42.5% of the polled votes and became an elected Non-Constituency Member of Parliament.
