The Director of the IML, Dr Alexandros X.M. Ntovas, Associate Professor of Maritime Law acted as the Consulting Editor for the Title on Prize Law in Halsbury’s Laws 5th Edition Volume 85 (2020) that was recently published by Lexis Nexis. The Title of Prize Law and Jurisdiction consists of more than 80 sections, nearing 38.000 words, and it covers the substantive Law of Prize – including Validity of Capture, Rights and Duties of Captors, Condemnation of Prize, as well as the Exercise of British Prize Courts Jurisdiction and Procedure – including Appearance, Claims & Interlocutory Proceedings, Hearing, References, Fees, Payments and Costs.

On the occasion of this leading publication, Dr Alexandros X.M. Ntovas commented that:  ‘It was truly an honour to be asked to cover the title of Prize, which constitutes one of the few remaining pure aspects of the Admiralty law, and one of the foundational questions in the early development of the law of the sea. Particularly in the latter context, it is to be remembered that the law of Prize and Booty was a salient codification on the customary law and State practice made by Hugo Grotius in his work De Jure Praedae that remained unpublished during his lifetime. Especially, I am very pleased to have done so in the context of the Halsbury's Laws as the only comprehensive narrative statement of the law of England & Wales.’
