Successful South Asians in Britain: Narratives of Citizenship, Belonging, and Community

Southampton Business School is accepting applications for a fully funded studentship awarded by the India Centre for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development commencing in 2020/21 Academic Year.

The overarching goals of this interdisciplinary research are two-fold: i) to systematically capture, collate and document the unique contributions and multifaceted experiences of South Asian diaspora across generations, and ii) to understand the associated wider sociocultural, intellectual and economic impact that South Asians have had on British society. The research will focus on individuals who made significant contributions to shaping modern Britain. The term ‘multifaceted experiences’ relate to a broad spectrum of critical events across the life course of successful South Asians, including: arrival and settlement, community where offspring of migrants are born and brought up, childhood events, memories, home, social and working life, economic conditions, religious affiliation, political and cultural activities.
