Event details

The Institute for Life Sciences Biofilms & Microbial Communities Conference will take place on Monday 12th September 2011 at the Chilworth Manor Hotel, Southampton. This marks the first official event of the Institute for Life Sciences.

Abstract: Research into complex microbial communities is now a feature of many scientific disciplines, such as microbiology, biotechnology, engineering and ocean science. This research impacts across diverse fields of application including medicine, environment and industry. The objective of this conference is to capitalise on the interdisciplinary nature of this exciting research topic by fostering discussion and exchange of ideas and methods between the various research areas. This meeting will be the third gathering of microbial community researchers across the University; the previous two very successful meetings have led to much new collaboration and to successful funding outcomes. It is anticipated that this year's event will be just as successful.

The programme includes speakers from within the Southampton research community as well as other leading UK researchers in this field. This year, we also have the addition of a poster session, alongside a cheese and wine reception at Chilworth Manor, which will provide an excellent opportunity to network.

Programme participants: Professor Catherine Biggs, Dr Saul Faust, Professor Alain Filloux, Dr Luanne Hall-Stoodley, Professor Bill Keevil, Dr Lex Kraaijeveld, Professor Philip Marsh, Professor Peter J S Smith, Dr Paul Stoodley, Dr Richard Watson, Dr Jeremy Webb

Poster Opportunity: Attendees are invited to submit a poster for display. If you would like to present a poster please submit the abstract (not more than 400 words, including title, authors and affiliation) by Friday 12 August to Janette Thompson. Posters should be A0 portrait in size. As poster space is limited, posters will be vetted by the Biofilms and Microbial Communities Group.

Registration: Please contact Janette Thompson, Multidisciplinary Research Co-ordinator by Monday 5 September J.L.Thompson@soton.ac.uk 023 8059 7280
