Professor Hugh Mackay has spent a lifetime listening to people talk about their dreams, their fears, their hopes, their disappointments and their passions. In this presentation, drawing on a 30-year social research project, Hugh will identify the ten desires he believes drive our social behaviour.
This lecture will appeal to social scientists, planners and strategists in marketing, government and non-government organisations, educators and managers - indeed, to anyone interested in deepening their understanding of why we do the things we do.
- Why do sporting teams win more often on their home ground?
- Why do we talk as if we're rational, but act as if we're not?
- Why are some people such control freaks?
- What is the role of religion in Society?
- Why do we seek change, yet resist it?
- Why do consumers love choice, but hate making decisions?
- Why do we fall out of love?
