Professor Paul Lewin , Soton Uni , on the Royal Society Working Group considering the future of a pan-European electricity transmission network (EEGI).

Changes in the UK's generation mix (e.g. introduction of windfarms, closure of coal burning power stations etc) will have huge impact on power networks and this talk will discuss proposed solutions at transmission voltage level (400 kV or higher) including the challenge of developing (the world's first) offshore High Voltage DC transmission network. ( connecting together ,continent-wide , Icelandic geothermal electricity to Norwegian hydro, to French nuclear and North African solar generation)
