Event details

The event is an opportunity for staff and students within the ZI's constituent groups across the ORC, ECS and P&A, and affiliate groups/researchers in other Faculties, to find out more about the research carried out in Fibres and Lasers, to view first-hand world-class facilities such as the silica fibre fabrication cleanrooms, telecomms and laser labs and to network and chat over a glass of something, canapés and cakes.

An outline agenda for the afternoon is below:

  • 15.00-16.00 Facilities tours: Due to the limited capacity of each lab, there will be several tour groups; each group will visit labs in B53 and B46, including the Silica Fibre Fab, Laser and Telecomms Labs etc, on a rotating basis.
  • 16.00-17.00 Fibres and Lasers research presentations and flash talks (B53 4025A/B)
  • Keynote 1: Fibres and capabilities. Professor David Richardson, Head of Group (20 mins)
  • Keynote 2: Lasers and capabilities. Professor Andy Clarkson (20 mins)
  • Student and post-doc flash talks (20 mins)
  • 17.00-18.00 Refreshments and poster exhibition (B53 Level 3 Common Room)

In order to help us plan the lab tours, we are asking guests to please register for the event in advance by 8 December, using the following link: https://fibres-lasers-event.eventbrite.co.uk

As the labs can only accommodate a limited number of people, priority on tours will be given to guests outside the Fibres and Lasers Group (Prof Dave Richardson's group in the ORC). However, we encourage everyone to attend the research presentations and flash talks and to enjoy the refreshments that will follow.
