Event details

As you will be aware antibiotic resistance presents a significant global public health issue. In 2014 NIHR ran a themed call for AMR. At recent meetings with NIHR leaders Professor Dame Sally Davies and Professor Tom Whalley have repeatedly stressed that the themed call remains open and all NIHR funding streams want to receive more applications for AMR research. This keenness to fund AMR research is obviously not restricted to NIHR with the MRC and others also releasing funding calls. Whilst we urgently need to develop new treatments, the call is for us to think much more broadly. We need to consider how we organise and deliver our care to decrease the need for antibiotic therapy. We need to develop more accurate and rapid diagnostics. We need to develop alternative therapies such as vaccines. We need to work with our colleagues in other disciplines such as engineering, physics, oceanography. The AMR workshop planned for the 22nd of January is aiming to bring interested parties, clinicians, scientists, engineers etc. together and provide an opportunity to network, explore potential areas of research and identify support available to develop ideas into applications and delivery of the research.
