‘Revising surveillance systems for malaria elimination’

The talk will focus on the work Chris carried out under the Clinton Health Access Initiative to support the Ministry of Health in Namibia to assess and redesign their malaria surveillance system in preparation for the push to elimination. Chris will review the work carried out to improve confirmed diagnosis, and how that subsequently helped improve surveillance data and risk mapping to give an accurate idea of where the Ministry can focus interventions. Chris hopes to use similar methodology to provide practical solutions in Laos, where he will focus his PhD work.

These meetings are intended for everyone with an interest in disease ecology, spatial epidemiology and the types of spatial analysis and modelling methods that may be used in this field. There will also be a lot of relevance in some of our meetings for researchers in similar fields (e.g. species distribution modelling, health geography). All are welcome to join us – it’s a great opportunity to get together and discuss on-going research, methods, conferences, publications and more in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
