Event details

This event aims to develop interdisciplinary data analysis skills across the University.

The Directors of the Institute for Life Sciences, Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute and the Web Science Institute have pleasure in inviting you to the second University of Southampton Cross-Institute Datathon which aims to develop interdisciplinary data analysis skills across the University.

In the first event we worked with teams of researchers from across the University coming together to study data relating to disaster management scenarios, including forecasting and immediate crisis management and post-disaster management.

In this event we will be running tutorials to introduce teams to the ideas behind social media, data visualization and connecting to large data sets where teams will follow a standard pipeline of downloading, cleaning and visualising data in order to prepare for a final real-world example of analysing public health data. It will be of interest to anyone whose research takes them into the realm of complex and connected data-sets.

During follow-up events in March teams will be able to apply their earlier learning in interdisciplinary teams.

Numbers are limited so please sign up early.

Programming/data literacy skills will be very useful but they are not a pre-requisite for taking part.
