The University of Southampton's Zepler Institute (ZI) is a unique interdisciplinary research centre that brings together world-leading expertise in photonics, quantum technologies and nanoscience
The largest photonics and electronics institute in the UK, ZI membership stands at over 350 staff and Phd students led by Director Professor Sir David Payne . Facilities comprise around 100 laboratories, including those based in the University's £120M cutting-edge Zepler Institute Cleanroom Complex.
The Zepler Institute provides a collaborative environment for fundamental and applied research in photonics and electronics that will deliver the solutions to the global challenges of the future - from ultra-high bandwidth communication technologies, biophotonics for point-of-care diagnostics and new fibre lasers for advanced manufacturing, through energy harvesting, phase-change memory and sensors for harsh environments to understanding interaction with matter and light at the quantum mechanical level.
