Victoria Aragon was announced as winner of the WISET+ 'Women in Academia' competion, at a celebration event at John Hansard Gallery on Tuesday 25 June.

Victoria's piece Infinite Improbability was inspired, in her words, by the academic women in her life. She said: “I wanted to show the many faces of a career in academia and life as a woman: things are difficult, things are amazing, things that should change and things that I am proud of.”

Vicky’s animation looks effortless and simple, but it manages to capture a complex, thoughtful and humorous reflection on the life of women academics. Its main strength rests in its ability to showcase both the challenges and the successes of women across the intersectional spectrum.

This is political work: it makes us think about the struggles and the victories of women in academia, without making overly Political statements. It is intersectional because it asks the viewer to question the multiple positions and subjectivities held by ourselves and others.
