As part of the Invisible Men: An anthology from the Westminster Menswear Archive exhibition organised by Westminster University, that will explore menswear from the beginning of the 20th century to the current day, Dr Shaun Cole will be talking at the associated conference on Tuesday 29 October 2019.

Shaun’s talk, entitled ‘Invisible (Gay) Men?, or “How to spot a (Millenial) Homo”’, will explore whether it is possible to ‘spot’ or identify gay men as differently attired to straight men in the 21stcentury. It will ask if there particular styles worn by gay men or has the opening up of the menswear market and inclusive categorisations of masculinity such as ‘the metrosexual’ meant that, as one of my interviewees emphasised, it is ‘impossible to tell the difference today.’ Or is it just that, as one of Shaun’s interviewees stated, because he is a gay man ‘when I wear all that, it's definitely a gay look’.
