IROE welcomes new members to the team

IROE is delighted to welcome four new members to the team. Dr Annelie Baines joins as a Research Fellow alongside Oscar Festa, Noor Laham and Andrew Jewitt as PhD students.

Annelie joins the team working in the Sensing research them, investigating how spatially sparse but long time series data could be used for live assessment of mooring line integrity for floating wind farms. Annelie graduated in Civil Engineering and completed her PhD at the University of Manchester.

Oscar’s research also addresses mooring lines, but focussed at the design stage to develop smart stationkeeping systems by considering ductility of mooring lines to absorb peak loading and reduce required anchor capacity. Oscar graduated with a 1st class MEng in Mechanical Engineering from Warwick.

Noor joins us for her PhD following a successful Erasmus exchange from the University of Bologna last year, and from where she graduated with a Distinction in an MSc in Offshore Engineering. Noor’s research addresses the Characterisation and Design research themes, identifying the characteristics of geotechnical seabed properties over the lifetime of ocean infrastructure from laboratory testing protocols and developing a computational framework for design and through-life assessment of offshore foundations and anchors. Noor’s project is co-supervised and sponsored by the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute.

Andrew also joins the team in the Characterisation theme, investigating improved methods of geophysical interpretation to assist engineering design. Andrew has a geology and geophysics background and his PhD is co-supervised by colleagues in the School of Ocean & Earth Science and by Dr Mark Vardy, Director and Head of R&D of SAND Geophysics.
