IROE celebrates ‘This Is Engineering Day’

The IROE team celebrated This Is Engineering Day 2020 with a This Is Ocean Engineering postcard of the team shared on social media and the launch of a short video to highlight how ocean engineering impacts our everyday lives.

November 4th 2020 was the second This Is Engineering Day, an initiative launched by The Royal Academy of Engineering last year to celebrate the engineers and engineering that shapes the world around us and to challenge the narrow preconceptions of engineering.

Last year on This Is Engineering Day the Royal Academy of Engineering launched a free public image library demonstrating the diversity within engineering. The image library is available for anyone to use to avoid negatively stereotyped stock imagery.

This year, to celebrate This Is Engineering Day, the Royal Academy of Engineering launched a Virtual Museum of Engineering Innovation. The exhibits will grow throughout 2021 – so keep checking in!

This year’s theme was #BeTheDifference: a celebration of the engineering that shapes our world for the better, whether that’s by making our day to day lives easier or tackling some of our biggest global challenges.
