IROE Chair, Susan Gourvenec, spoke at the first of the Worldwide Universities Network’s (WUN) Early Career Researcher (ECR) Networking Workshops to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

WUN, in collaboration with UNESCO and UNSDSN, is holding a series of free virtual networking workshops for early career researchers under the theme of ‘developing the next generation of research leaders for sustainable development’.

The first workshop, held on 27th January 2021, addressed SDG 13: Climate Action and hosted keynote speakers Mr. Ovais Armad, United Nations Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Secretary of The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Professor Jacques Dubochet, Emeritus Professor of Biophysics at the University of Lausanne, and Nobel Laureate.

Professor Gourvenec spoke as Chair of the WUN Responding to Climate Change Global Challenge Group, introducing the activities of the group and in particular the current RCC Global Challenge Project being undertaken by the group “Regenerative by Design: tackling climate change and inequalities” – encouraging ECRs from WUN member universities to get involved.
