Public policy journey

IROE Chair, Susan Gourvenec talks about her policy journey so far in a new series of video interview by Public Policy Southampton.

Susan talks about her experience engaging with policy makers, through responding to government inquiries or consultations, through taking part in events and round tables with policy makers both at local and national level, and through developing relationships with policy makers and policy influencers to collaborate in research projects. She notes that that working in offshore renewables, there is a multitude of policy opportunities and implications of her current research. For example, through contributing to the evidence base that will underpin future policies that will shape the scale and nature of the offshore renewable activity in the UK and overseas, and how such decisions influence our society, economy and environment in addressing decarbonisation.

Susan says “Policy engagement is an opportunity to get our research outcomes to the people that can influence change.  Engagement with policy makers enables academic research outcomes to inform policies that enable positive change, and equally to identify priorities of government or knowledge gaps to shape future research.”

Susan encourages anyone thinking about or wanting to engage with policy makers to just get in touch with Public Policy Southampton.
