Katherine Kwa and Benjamin Cerfontaine present at EWTEC

The European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference (EWTEC) series provides an international forum for scientific and technical developments in renewable marine energy, focussing on all activities in wave and tidal energy conversion technologies, research, development and demonstration. This year's 14th EWTEC was held in a hybrid format from 5th to 9th September at the University of Plymouth, UK.
Benjamin Cerfontaine and Katherine Kwa attended the conference in person and presented their research papers on 'Numerical modelling of rock anchor uplift capacity for offshore applications' and 'Enhanced anchoring systems for MRE infrastructure: whole-life soil-anchor-floating system interactions.' The conference was an excellent opportunity to meet, interact and discuss new ideas and issues pertinent to wave and tidal energy conversion. The social networking events including the Cocktail Reception at The Box Museum, Taste of the West and Gala Dinner were very well-received and also gave attendees the opportunity to enjoy Plymouth's ocean and coastal history and culture.
We were warmly welcomed to the city of Plymouth by Luke Pollard MP, Labour (Co-op) MP for Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport, and to the EWTEC conference by Professor Judith Petts, Vice Chancellor of the University of Plymouth and by Professor Deborah Greaves, Head of School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics at the University of Plymouth and Director of the EPSRC Supergen ORE Hub. Keynote speakers also included Sue Barr, Chairperson within the UK Marine Energy Council and Professor Krish Thiagarajan Sharman an Endowed Chair in Renewable Energy at the University of Massachusetts.
We look forwards to the next EWTEC to be held in 2023 in Bilbao, Spain.
