We are delighted to welcome Chrysoula Anastassopoulos and Hugo Putuhena to the Centre of Excellence for Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering (IROE).

Chrysoula Anastassopoulos has joined the IROE team after graduating from the University of Southampton with a First Class MEng in Civil Engineering. Chrysoula will be using data-centric approaches to improve the geotechnical design outcomes of foundations and anchors for offshore wind turbines and to help to inform the layout of offshore wind farms. Chrysoula is supervised by Susan Gourvenec and Jared Charles from Engineering, alongside Tim Henstock from Ocean & Earth Science and industry partner Mark Vardy of SAND Geophysics. Chrysoula’s PhD is part funded by the Southampton Marine & Maritime Institute.

Hugo Putuhena has joined the IROE team a Research Fellow in Offshore Renewable Energy following completion of his PhD at the University of Manchester. Hugo’s research focusses on characterising the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) environment and mapping the offshore wind energy potential across the UKCS to support the UK government target for offshore wind energy for 2050. Hugo is funded by the EPSRC Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Supergen Hub and is working with Dave White, one of the co-Directors of the Hub, and Susan Gourvenec from Engineering, alongside Fraser Sturt, a geospatial data expert from Maritime Archaeology.
