International Symposium 2022

Susan Gourvenec delivered the opening technical keynote to the 4th International Symposium on Frontiers in Offshore Geotechnics (ISFOG) titled "Whole Life Geotechnical Design: What is it? What's it for? So what? And what's next?"

The 4th International Symposium on Frontiers in Offshore Geotechnics (ISFOG) was held August 28-31, 2022 in Austin, Texas, USA. The symposium was intended to take place in 2020, following the quinquennial pattern established since the inaugural and second ISFOGs held in Perth, Australia, and followed by the third ISFOG in Olso in 2015, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic until August 2022. While 250 offshore geotechnical engineers from industry and academia and from around the globe met in person in Texas, unfortunately, Susan was unable to travel to the symposium and delivered her keynote online.

ISFOG 2020 highlighted emerging technologies related to data science and challenges and solutions related to the surge in offshore renewables. ISFOG also focssed on other growing areas of interest including performance-based design and addressing the challenges of an ageing offshore infrastructure, whether it be extending the operating life of these structures or solving the challenges and opportunities related to their decommissioning.
