ISLNE Researcher Passes PhD Viva
Joseph Milton, a researcher within the Intelligent Structures for Low Noise Environments team, has passed his PhD viva.
Joe successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled 'Active Control Strategies for the Control of Far-Field Structurally Radiated Sound Power' on the 1st September 2020. The external examiner was Dr Neven Alujevic from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and the internal examiner was Prof Steve Elliott, from the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR). Joe's PhD was supported by an iCASE PhD studentship provided by EPSRC and BAE Systems and was supervised by Dr Jordan Cheer and Prof Steve Daley who are both member of the ISVR.
During his PhD, Joe was awarded the Sir James Lighthill Award for the best student paper presented at the International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV) on two occasions. He has also published the results of his PhD research in journal papers published by the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. The first paper focused on the identification of the radiation resistance matrix using experimental methods and the second paper uses this radiation resistance matrix in the active control of structurally radiated noise.
Joe is now working as Post-doctoral research fellow in the ISVR as part of the ISLNE Research Programme.
