Hi, I'm Stephanie Eaton and I studied LLB Law within Southampton Law School at the University of Southampton.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at university, I made some lifelong friends, learnt a lot about my degree subject and the industry that I wanted to work in and I have now secured my ideal job because of it!

I chose the University of Southampton due to its excellent reputation generally as well as for Law. When I visited for the first time on an open day I really liked the campus and Southampton itself and I could see myself living and studying there. All of the students and staff that I spoke to were really friendly and talented and I felt confident that I would enjoy my time at University of Southampton.

During my studies I participated in mooting which was useful when completing the Legal Practice Course (a professional course you are required to complete before starting a Training Contract). One of the assessments on the LPC is an advocacy mooting style assessment and it was great to have already had some practice.

The Law degree was really varied and interesting and that has subsequently been of great help to me, it is surprising how often something that I studied and thought I would never come across again as it isn't in my current field of commercial litigation and arbitration crops up in a case or a client query.

I now work as a commercial litigation and international arbitration specialist with experience in handling complex matters with cross border elements. I currently work for Signature Litigation LLP in London.

After finishing university I worked as a paralegal to obtain some legal experience before securing a Training Contract with Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. My paralegal experience was extremely helpful in both preparing me for my training contract and building my network in law. As part of my training contract I spent 6 months in the firm's Singapore office which was a great experience! Upon qualification I decided to move to a specialist litigation and arbitration firm as I knew that was what I wanted to specialise in and I had enjoyed working as part of a smaller team in the Singapore office.
