Leading experts to introduce new distance learning at University of Southampton

Professors Ian Lloyd and Steve Saxby are to launch a new distance learning LLM in IT and Telecommunications Law at University of Southampton with effect from 2010-11. Prof Lloyd created the UK's first distance learning LLM in the field (and possibly the world) at the University of Strathclyde in 1994, whereas Prof Saxby introduced the first undergraduate courses in IT Law at Southampton more than 30 years ago. Both are authors and editors of major works in the field and have undertaken a wide range of consultancy over the years. The programme will be part of the teaching and research activities of the School conducted within the Institute for Law and the Web (ILAWS) of which Prof Saxby is Director.

Once validated, the new course will appeal to a wide cross section of participants and is expected to be open for registration from early March onwards. A Diploma and Certificate is also envisaged for completion of elements of the course, which will normally run over two years or via an accelerated programme of one year, subject to approval of status. Applicants should be law graduates, lawyers, IT specialists or holders of relevant career experience, with English language ability to level 6.5 IELTS.
