LLM Students in the first UK Mediation Skills contest
A team of students from the LLM course in International Commercial Arbitration at the University of Southampton School of Law participated in the first UK Mediation Skills contest.
The Competition was held in London by the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators between 14 and 16 January 2011. The competition was not an ordinary moot but was like a mediation in that the parties' objective was to work towards an agreement to settle of the claim.
The Southampton team consisted of Graham Caldwell, Sarah Elaradi and Martin Tandstad Ege. Sarah and Martin took turns in the roles of acting as client and counsel, while Graham acted as the team's coach. The team performed with great credit to the School but was up against some stiff competition and did not reach the final round. The competition was nevertheless an exciting and enjoyable experience for the team
