Eight School of Law students to participate in the 2011 European ICT and IPR Law Summer School in Austria

The University of Southampton party will consist of 3 LLM students, 2 LLM IT & Telecoms (distance learning), 1 LLB finalist, 1 PhD Law and 1 PhD DTC WebScience student. The inclusion of these lucky students at the prestigious event in Reichenau, Austria, 31 July - 5 August is largely due to the efforts of Visiting Professor Sylvia Kierkegaard. Each student has only had to pay a symbolic fee of just 50 Euros towards the cost of their participation, travel and accommodation.

The Summer School on European Information Law was the common initiative of three partner universities forming the so-called "Vienna Group" in 2005: Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria), University of Brno (Czech Republic), University of Pécs (Hungary); close cooperation was developed with University of Bratislava (Slovakia) and University of Wroclaw (Poland); in 2009, University of Göttingen (Germany) joined the group. From 2011 the Summer School will be organized by the European Academy of Law and ICT The 2011 Summer School is co-funded by Co-Reach IPR in New Media

The 2011 Summer School will host lecturers and students from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia and United Kingdom.  The topics of focus will be contract negotiation, personal data protection, legal theory, legal protection of software, intellectual property and patent law, developing communications skills.
